XI JINPING HIGHLIGHTS MASSIVE ECONOMIC AND GEOPOLITICAL RISKS

BEIJING — Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing for high-stakes bilateral discussions following Putin’s official arrival. During the primary sessions, Xi drew urgent attention to the accelerating escalations in the Middle East and the Gulf, warning that the regional dynamics have reached a critical tipping point. He emphasized that an immediate halt to the conflict and a steadfast commitment to peace negotiations are of paramount global importance. “Ending these hostilities as quickly as possible will directly contribute to stabilizing global energy supplies, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of industrial supply chains, and safeguarding the international trade order,” the Chinese leader asserted.

The high-level summit coincides with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia Strategic Partnership Coordination and the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation. Reflecting on these milestones, President Xi underscored that the bilateral framework established a quarter-century ago provided a resilient legal foundation for long-term neighborly relations, allowing the comprehensive ties between Beijing and Moscow to achieve significant strategic leaps forward over the years.

CALL FOR REFORMED GLOBAL GOVERNANCE AND ROBUST ENERGY ALLIANCES

Emphasizing that mutual political trust between the two capitals continues to deepen across trade, investment, technology, and cultural exchange, President Xi noted that relations have entered an accelerated phase of development. He stated that as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and major global nuclear powers, China and Russia must deploy higher-quality strategic coordination to drive domestic revitalization and foster a more equitable, multipolar global governance system.

For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the alignment, stating that Russia-China relations have ascended to an unprecedentedly high level. Putin noted that despite highly unfavorable external geopolitical pressures, the operational interaction between the two nations maintains strong momentum. “Our bilateral trade volume has expanded thirtyfold over the past 25 years, consistently exceeding the 200 billion dollar threshold annually,” the Russian leader detailed. Putin further highlighted that amid the ongoing crises disrupting vulnerable maritime shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz, Russia remains a completely secure, land-accessible overland supplier of energy resources, while China remains a responsible and vital consumer of those assets.

Following their closed-door and wide-format delegation meetings, the two leaders oversaw a major signing ceremony where senior ministers from both nations finalized more than 20 bilateral agreements spanning joint transportation infrastructure, advanced technological integration, and strategic economic initiatives.
