President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in Ankara as Türkiye and Algeria signed multiple strategic cooperation agreements.
ANKARA, (Kelam) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan officially welcomed Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during his formal visit to Türkiye.
Erdoğan received Tebboune at Esenboğa Airport before an official ceremony was held at the Presidential Complex in Ankara. Following the national anthems and military honors, the two leaders held bilateral talks and chaired the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

TÜRKİYE AND ALGERIA EXPAND STRATEGIC COOPERATION
Speaking at a joint press conference, Erdoğan stated that Türkiye remains committed to strengthening cooperation with Algeria across several strategic sectors, including energy, mining, transportation, agriculture and defense industries.
He emphasized that Algeria is among Türkiye’s largest trade partners in Africa and said both countries are intensifying efforts to achieve the previously announced bilateral trade target of 10 billion dollars.

According to Erdoğan, more than 1,600 Turkish companies are currently operating in Algeria with investments exceeding 8 billion dollars in sectors such as industry, mining, agriculture, infrastructure and pharmaceuticals.
ENERGY, AGRICULTURE AND DEFENSE HIGHLIGHTED
Erdoğan underlined the importance of long-term cooperation in energy security, particularly natural gas supplies, amid regional instability affecting global energy markets.

He also stressed the need to deepen collaboration in renewable energy, mining, agriculture and food security, while highlighting the strategic importance of defense industry cooperation for regional stability.
The Turkish president further noted that both countries share similar positions on major regional issues, especially regarding Palestine, Gaza, Lebanon and Syria.
TEBBOUNE CALLS FOR STRONGER ECONOMIC TIES
President Tebboune stated that Algeria seeks to diversify economic cooperation with Türkiye and expand partnerships in renewable energy, industry, agriculture, mining, culture and humanitarian fields.
He also condemned Israeli military actions in Gaza and Lebanon, calling for intensified international efforts to secure a just and lasting solution guaranteeing the rights of the Palestinian people.

MULTIPLE AGREEMENTS SIGNED
During the visit, Türkiye and Algeria signed numerous agreements and memorandums of understanding covering transportation, telecommunications, trade, disaster management, agriculture, industry, investment promotion and media cooperation.

Erdoğan also awarded Tebboune Türkiye’s State Medal during a ceremony at the Presidential Complex, praising his contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and describing Algeria as “shining like a star in its region.”
