Chinese President Xi Jinping met with visiting U.S. President Donald Trump at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, declaring that the world has reached a new crossroads in international diplomacy.
During the meeting at the Great Hall of the People, President Xi Jinping addressed the critical nature of the current global era while hosting President Donald Trump. Xi raised fundamental questions regarding the direction of the two superpowers, asking whether China and the United States could transcend the “Thucydides Trap” to establish a new model for major-country relations. He questioned if both nations could work together to provide global stability and create a bright future focused on the welfare of both peoples and humanity. Xi noted that answering these questions is the shared responsibility of great leaders in the modern age.

2026 SHOULD BE A TURNING POINT IN BILATERAL TIES
Highlighting that shared interests between China and the U.S. outweigh their differences, Xi stated that each country’s success serves as an opportunity for the other. He remarked that stable relations are in the best interest of the global community, asserting, “We must be partners, not rivals.” Xi expressed his readiness to steer bilateral relations alongside President Trump, aiming to make the year 2026 a historic turning point that bridges the past with a collaborative future.

XI: ECONOMIC RELATIONS ARE MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL
President Xi Jinping underscored that there are no winners in trade wars, emphasizing that China-U.S. economic and commercial ties are inherently “win-win.” He noted that in the presence of disagreements and friction, consultation based on equality remains the only correct choice. Turning to the Taiwan issue, Xi identified it as the most sensitive and critical topic in bilateral relations. He warned that while proper management of the Taiwan matter keeps relations stable, poor management could lead to conflicts or disputes, potentially pushing China-U.S. ties to a dangerous tipping point.
