Wild Mushroom Soup Kills Woman in Vietnam

Authorities in northern Vietnam are investigating suspected amatoxin poisoning after a family meal involving wild mushrooms left one person dead and five hospitalized.

One person died and five others were hospitalized after consuming soup made from wild mushrooms collected in a forest in northern Vietnam.

The poisoning incident occurred following a family gathering attended by 24 people on May 2 in Na Hien village in Son La province.

According to local media reports, six people who consumed the mushroom soup developed symptoms including abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea later that evening.

ONE WOMAN DIES IN HOSPITAL

The victims were taken to hospital for treatment, where one woman died on May 4 after her condition deteriorated.

Officials stated that four of the five surviving patients are currently receiving intensive care treatment in Hanoi.

AUTHORITIES SUSPECT DEADLY AMATOXIN

Health authorities believe the poisoning may have been caused by highly toxic white mushrooms containing amatoxin, a dangerous substance that remains lethal even after exposure to high cooking temperatures.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
