Trump announces “Freedom Project” to assist neutral vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, warning against interference and rejecting Iran’s proposal.
US President Donald Trump announced that Washington will begin assisting vessels belonging to neutral countries stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement on social media, Trump said a new initiative named the “Freedom Project” will be launched to facilitate the safe passage of ships not directly involved in the Middle East crisis. He noted that several countries had requested US assistance to help their vessels exit the restricted corridor. Trump stated that the operation would enable ships to resume normal trade activities safely and efficiently.
OPERATION TO BEGIN WITH MILITARY SUPPORT
The United States Central Command confirmed it will support the operation, which is set to begin Monday morning Middle East time. According to officials, the mission aims to ensure the free movement of commercial vessels through this critical international trade route.
The statement added that approximately 15,000 personnel, more than 100 land and naval assets, and guided-missile destroyers will be deployed. CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper emphasized that supporting this defensive mission is vital for both regional security and the global economy.
HUMANITARIAN FOCUS AND WARNING TO IRAN
Trump described the initiative as primarily humanitarian, highlighting concerns over dwindling food supplies aboard stranded ships and the health of their crews. He warned that any interference by Iran with vessel movements would be met with a strong response.
TRUMP REJECTS IRAN PROPOSAL
Separately, Trump said he had reviewed a 14-point proposal conveyed by Iran through Pakistan but found it unacceptable. While noting that Tehran appears willing to reach an agreement, he stated that the current terms do not meet US expectations.
COMMENTS ON ISRAELI POLITICS
Trump also addressed Israeli domestic developments, calling on President Isaac Herzog to pardon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an ongoing corruption case. He described Netanyahu as a wartime leader and stressed the need for focus on ongoing conflict rather than legal proceedings.
