French president backs reopening of the Strait of Hormuz through coordination, ruling out participation in any force-based operation.

French President Emmanuel Macron said France will not take part in any operation involving the use of force in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the European Political Community summit in Yerevan, Macron addressed recent developments between the United States and Iran, stressing that any ceasefire should include Lebanon and the reopening of the strategic waterway.

CALL FOR COORDINATED REOPENING

Macron recalled that a conference on ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz was held in Paris on April 17. He noted that on the same day, a blockade was declared in the strait in the United States, adding that France supports efforts to reopen the passage.

“If the US is ready to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, that is positive. We have been calling for this from the beginning,” Macron said. However, he emphasized that France would not support operations conducted under unclear frameworks or involving force.

DIPLOMATIC SOLUTION PREFERRED

Macron underlined the need for a coordinated approach between Iran and the United States to ensure the sustainable reopening of the strait. He added that long-term stability requires unrestricted navigation without limitations or transit fees, describing this as the only viable solution.
