Lebanon reports rising casualties and severe healthcare damage as Israeli strikes continue across multiple regions since early March.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that the number of people killed in Israeli attacks across the country has reached 2,618, while the number of injured has climbed to 8,094.
According to an official statement, the casualties resulted from strikes launched by the Israeli military on March 2 targeting various parts of the country. The ministry noted that between March 2 and May 1, approximately 94 percent of those killed and injured were Lebanese citizens, while the remaining victims were largely of Syrian and Palestinian nationality.
CIVILIAN IMPACT AND DEMOGRAPHICS
The ministry also provided a breakdown of the victims, highlighting the significant civilian toll. Among those who lost their lives were 184 children and 299 women, underscoring the scale of the humanitarian impact.
HEALTHCARE SYSTEM UNDER STRAIN
Authorities emphasized the extensive damage inflicted on Lebanon’s healthcare infrastructure. A total of 131 separate attacks reportedly targeted health and emergency response teams during the period. As a result, 103 healthcare workers were killed and 234 others sustained injuries.
In addition, 119 ambulances and 16 hospitals across the country were damaged, while three hospitals were rendered completely out of service, further straining the already fragile medical system.
